From before Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari (1919) and beyond Inception (2010), from its very beginnings
film has been inseparable from dream. This course primarily will examine the poetics of cinema as it
relates to the oneiric nature of the medium, in works by such directors as Wiene, Keaton, Bunuel, Cocteau,
Welles, Resnais, Fellini, Kieslowski, Marker, Argento, Lynch, Wier, Cronenberg, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
